Political Philosophy for Leonard MorganCandidate for |
I believe that for a city to exist for everyone, it must be planned for all! I worked for Metro Government in the past and when I did, I saw a few things that really upset me. I saw neighborhoods, (of the affluent and well-to-do), improved by the city while others, (north and east), would sit dormant, ignored by Metro. I learned by listening to the ordinary citizens of Nashville that they were not happy. I listened to our city workers complain; not about low wages like the news media would have you believe, but of not having the proper tools to perform their jobs, or lack of promotions based on merit and experience. Our police department, compared to other cities of the same size, has had it's hands tied by under staffing and old, overused equipment. Neighborhoods in certain areas have been ignored to the point that they become havens for criminal activity. Streets are not improved, vacant lots are allowed to grow wild and street corners have become new retail areas for drug dealers. The past City Government has greatly improved the appearance of Nashville, but to improve our lower and middle income areas, I guess they would have to be on a tourist map before they take it seriously enough to spend money there.... I want to start a government that has only one concern, spend the money equally, Neighborhoods, Education, City Services. I want a government that asks all the people for their opinions - not just a select few - a government that looks out for the needs of everyone in every class and section of the city. I want a government for The People. |
