Requires all health maintenance organization contracts, sickness and accident insurance policies, and public employee benefit plans to provide coverage for services related to the diagnosis, treatment, and appropriate management of osteoporosis. The bill requires each individual or group health maintenance organization contract, each policy of sickness and accident insurance, and each public employee benefit plan, to provide coverage for services related to the diagnosis, treatment, and appropriate management of osteoporosis. The bill specifies that this coverage must include coverage for such bone density tests and are determined to be medically appropriate by the covered party's primary care physician for the purpose of identifying bone mass or detecting bone loss. The bill applies to individual and group health maintenance organization contracts delivered, issued for delivery, or renewed in Ohio on or after the bill's effective date; to policies of sickness and accident insurance (as currently defined in section 3923.01 of the Revised Code) on or after the bill's effective date: and to public employee benefit plans established or modified in Ohio on or after the bill's effective date. The bill exempts its provisions from the review otherwise required under section 3901.71 of the Revised Code for newly mandated health benefits. Section 3901.71 prohibits the application of any new health benefit mandate until the Superintendent of Insurance determines that the mandate can be fully and equally applied to employee benefit plans subject to regulation by the federal Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974, and to employee benefit plans established by the state or any political subdivision of the state. |
