Curt Pringle is completing his final term in the California State Assembly. During the 1998 legislative session, Assemblyman Curt Pringle will serve on the Banking and Finance, Governmental Organization, and Health Committees. For two years, he served as the highest-ranking Assembly Republican.

In what was hailed by the Associated Press as a "victory for stability over chaos," Curt Pringle was elected Speaker of the California State Assembly on January 4, 1996. Mr. Pringle presided as Speaker until November 1996. During the 1994 election cycle, Curt Pringle served as Chairman of the Assembly Republican Caucus and helped guide Republicans to their first Assembly majority in a quarter century.

During his tenure in the State Assembly, Curt Pringle has served as the Republican Leader, Chairman of the Appropriations Committee, Chairman of the Rules Committee and Vice Chairman of the Budget Committee. He also served on the Insurance and Joint Legislative Budget Review Committees.

Recognized for his knowledge of budgetary and fiscal matters, Curt Pringle has served as the lead Assembly Republican budget negotiator for each of the last two years. He was a key architect of California's historic, bipartisan welfare reform plan in 1997, and he authored the enacting legislation of the 1995-1996 State Budget. In 1996, he authored successful legislation to provide California businesses with a five- percent tax cut. Pringle has been credited as the chief legislative architect and driving force behind this year's landmark tax cut "mega-deal," which enacted a nearly $1 billion tax cut for California's families and businesses.

In addition to his role as vice president of the family business, Curt Pringle has also been active in his community. He served as chairman of the Garden Grove Citizens' Committee on Government Efficiency; chairman of the Garden Grove Planning Commission; acting president of the North Orange County Cancer League; president of the Orange County Chapter of the National Eagle Scout Association; and, as founding vice president of the Republican Small Business Association of Orange County.

Curt Pringle was first elected to represent the 72nd Assembly District in November of 1988. He served for two years. After redistricting in 1992, his home was located in the 68th Assembly District. He was elected that year to represent the newly drawn district. Pringle won re-election convincingly in 1994 and 1996. The 68th Assembly District includes much of the Orange County communities of Garden Grove, Anaheim, Buena Park, Stanton and Westminster.

Assemblyman Curt Pringle's legislative priorities include strengthening the state's economy and spurring job creation through tort, tax, and regulatory reform, as well as empowering parents and communities to improve the quality of education for their children.

Curt Pringle was born in Emmetsburg, Iowa on June 27, 1959. A 30-year resident of the Garden Grove area, Pringle helps operate a family drapery business in nearby Anaheim. He graduated from California State University, Long Beach with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration and a master's degree in Public Administration. Pringle and his wife Alexis, married in 1984. They have two children, Katie and Kyle.
