Education Reform

By Marie H. Fennell

Candidate for Member of the State Assembly; District 67

This information is provided by the candidate
An educated population is our greatest resource. It is our least expensive and most reliable national defense.
When the Soviets orbited the earth with their Sputnik we knew we needed to do some quick catching up. It stimulated a national effort to improve the teaching of science and math which resulted in the great technological advance our country enjoys today.

Californians must again see our schools as resources that improve the skills of our citizens so that they contribute more toward the building of our state as well as contributing toward their personal and economic advancement.

We must invest in programs, in plants and in equipment. Educational development must be our first priority. We need skilled enthusastic teachers and must be willing to pay to get them. We need guided after-school activities. We need summer school classes that not only offer students productive ways to use their free time but also further their knowledge.

Basic adult education needs to be a vital part of our educational system in California. It is the way our population can maintain secure jobs and keep up with changing technology.

Education is an investment that is the lowest risk and pays the highest dividend. Where else can we get a deal like that?!
