Political Philosophy for Mike Dismukes

Candidate for
Member of the State Assembly; District 9

I support a campaign emphasizing the Bill of Rights and the Constitution of the United States. Government bureaucracy has recently eroded some of the fundamental rights enjoyed by all citizens. If elected, I would maintain a representative capacity and respect the public vote. I will maintain no allegiance to any special interest group and work hard for campaign reform. Unlike my opponent, I do not support public or taxpayer bail-outs of big business at any level, whether it be the Almond Growers or the Sacramento Kings. It is absolutely amazing that vital services, such as police, medical care, roads, and schools are jeopardized while funding for the Convention Center, a beautiful library building, and a traffic calming plan can be found. These are not bad projects, they should simply come second to more vital needs. I believe government is replete with mismanagement, excessive bureaucracy, top-heavy administration, and misplaced priorities.

People are working harder than ever before and keeping less of what they earn. I believe that a tax should maintain a direct relationship to the service provided, ie: garbage, water, streets, etc. and that "General fund" monies should be monitored like an out-of-control child. We need to get back to basics. In this country, government was intended to serve the people, not rule them. The Bill of Rights was intended as protection against government excesses. We need that historic document to breathe new life into our current state of affairs.

I am not a traditional politician and do not intend to become one. Campaign reform is extremely important to me. There is only one special interest group that I seek to attract: you, the voter. You asked for campaign reform and term limits. That's why I am here. If you want campaign reform, the absence of special interest influence, a non-politician, a teacher, someone tough on crime (even misdemeanor crime), someone intolerant of illegal drugs, then vote for me. I promise to put the public and their needs first.
