Full Biography for Ian BainCandidate for |
Ian Alan Bain was born on October 12,1967. Ian's interest in government comes from his parents, who instilled in him the belief that we should all use our gifts to help others, and that serving in public office is a noble calling. He still believes this, and has contributed to his community in many ways over the years. Ian grew up in Palo Alto, with his two sisters and a family dog. He attended local public schools. Ian's family moved to Berkeley when he was a junior in high school, and he became involved in student government. After just over a year in his new school, he was elected student body president. Ian attended U.C. Berkeley, worked his way through school, and graduated in 1989 with a degree in Political Science. After college Ian moved back to the peninsula and began working at the Kainos Home and Training Center for the Developmentally Disabled. While at Kainos he raised funds for the program and helped disabled citizens find jobs in the community. During his seven years with Kainos, Ian earned numerous awards for outstanding service. More recently, Ian has been employed by A&R Partners, a high-tech public relations firm in Redwood City. Before serving on the City Council, Ian served three years on the city's Housing and Human Concerns Committee, on the board of directors of Redwood City Friends of Literacy and the Chamber of Commerce's Education Committee. He is also a graduate of the Chamber's Leadership Redwood City program. He currently serves on the board of directors for C.A.R. in Palo Alto, a program that serves the developmentally disabled. In February 1998, the City Council recognized Ian's hard work and appointed him to fill a vacant seat until the next general election. Ian and his wife Nancy were married on May 2, 1998, and are looking forward to raising their family in Redwood City. The couple met in 1989 when both were working at Kainos, and have been together for the last two years. Nancy is a manager at the National Traffic Safety Institute. Before becoming involved in politics, Ian enjoyed oil painting, playing guitar, and wood carving. Even with their busy schedules, Ian and Nancy still make time to work out at a local gym. |
