Shall the City create a Taxi Commission to regulate taxicabs?
Summary Prepared by League of Women Voters of San Francisco:
Charter Amendment Placed on the ballot by the Board of Supervisors.

PRINCIPAL PROVISIONS: Proposition D would create a seven person Taxi Commission. The members of the commission would be appointed by the mayor and include: one member from the senior or disabled communities, one driver who does not hold a taxicab medallion, one manager in a taxicab company, one member from the hospitality industry, one member from the labor community, one member from the neighborhoods, and one member of the general public. This commission would take over from the Police Commission all responsibilities relating to taxicabs and other motor vehicles for hire. The Police Department would continue enforcement of criminal laws relating to taxicab companies and drivers. Operation and staffing of the Taxi Commission would be financed through permit fees.
