Susan Withrow was elected to her first term on the Mission Viejo City Council in 1990. She served the city's residents as Mayor in 1994. Susan was reelected to a second four-year term in November of 1994 and was elected to a second term as Mayor in January of 1998. Susan earned a Bachelor's degree in Spanish from Arizona State University; a California Teaching Credential from the University of California, Irvine; and a Master's degree in Public Administration with an emphasis in planning and community development from California State University, Long Beach. Professionally, Susan worked as a land-use planner for several years, with additional experience in redevelopment and municipal administration in the city manager's department. Prior to her work in local government she was a high school Spanish and ESL teacher. An 18-year Mission Viejo resident, Susan and her husband Max, (a retired Marine officer and current civil engineer) are the parents of 14-year old twin sons, Kevin and Mark. Susan currently serves as the city's representative on the El Toro Reuse Planning Authority Board of Directors, the Foothill/Eastern Transportation Corridor Agency Board of Directors, and the Orange County Transportation Authority Board of Directors. She also served as chair of the Orange County League of California Cities Supercommittee on Restructuring County Government. |
