Questions & Answers

By Dale A Sandore

Candidate for Member, City Council; City of Mission Viejo

This information is provided by the candidate
Concerned, committed, caring
1. Briefly describe your qualifications for the position you are running for?

Independent businessman 30+ years and a resident of Mission Viejo for 20 years. Active in the Republican party since 1966, California Association of Nurserymen, PAC-Orange County Liaison.

2. Why are you a candidate?

I have a growing concern with the present councils performance and their lack of full disclosure on what should be public matters, misfeasance in office, little or no long term planning regarding traffic congestion, residential dwelling unit cap, high density apartments and, youth facilities.

3. Why are you the BEST candidate?

I have a businessman's open minded perspective, a strong commitment to making "The California Promise" more than just a slogan. I will not be flattered, cajoled, or intimidated into approving excessive public spending. I promise to care for Mission Viejo's money, as if it really were yours!

4. Describe your campaign platform and identify the specific local issues you are targeting.

I am CONCERNED about the councils "government of secrecy". I am COMMITTED to reducing the level of spending. I would like to address the problems with the airport, traffic congestion and manage the city's assets in a businesslike manner. I CARE about the community and will truly listen to citizens that have legitimate concerns for our city.

5. Outline your view on the use of redevelopment finds and whether you actually see a need to provide redevelopment assistance to the private sector in your city.

I see little or NO! need for redevelopment assistance to the private sector in Mission Viejo.

6. Would you favor additional utility taxes or other assessments to provide additional services? If so, what services would you seek to support using such a funding?

I do not favor additional utility taxes or other assessments, we have more than enough secret user fees and unnecessary taxes now.

7. What is your philosophy on property rights, taxes, fees, and special assessments?

My philosophy on property rights is that they are sovereign. Some taxation is a fact of life, special assessments and user fees should be discussed publicly, brought to a referendum, and a 2/3 majority of all votes cast to implement.

8a. Should the city build its own city hall? Please explain your reasons:

Should we build a new city hall . . . absolutely not! We do not need another monument to this councils, "edifice complex!"

8b. What size city hall do we require? Please explain your estimate.

Our present city hall is large enough. We should use our facilities more efficiently, not build more.

9. State your position allowing the residents to vote on all future (non-emergency) projects exceeding $2 million dollars.

I think any future non-emergency projects above $2 million dollars should be publicly discussed, brought to a vote of residents, and, require a 2/3 majority of all votes.

10. Do you believe that the city has eliminated our "blight"? If so, would you vote to terminate all future projects activity of the city's redevelopment agency?

I have not seen "blight" in Mission Viejo. This "blight" exist only in this councils excuse to pick the publics pockets. I would vote to terminate the R.D.A. ASAP.

11. What makes you and your views unique among the candidates running for this office?

I am unique in that I will bring a solid, mature, businesslike presence to the council. Neither will I seek to perpetuate myself in office or build monuments. I will always be mindful that this is your money and effort, that is at the heart of this fine city.

12. What support/endorsements do you have? Which community leaders/groups are backing you?

My supporters may be few in numbers at this time, but they are great in backing. My wife of 36 years, my three children, my friends and most of my neighbors. No one on the city council is behind me. I would be grateful for your endorsement and help.
