EDUCATIONAL CHALLENGE OF MILLENIUM

By Nancy Padberg

Candidate for Governing Board Member; South Orange County Community College District; Trustee Area 4

This information is provided by the candidate
WE MUST HEAL THE DIVISION IN THE DISTRICT AND MOVE FORWARD DEVELOPING THE VAST POTENTIAL EXISTING IN OUR TALENTED FACULTY, STAFF AND STUDENTS.
ZERO TOLERANCE OF BIGOTRY AND EXTREMISM

The division in the district is destroying our colleges and community reputation of excellence. We need to provide for a stepped-up shared governance program and broadened educational policy to expand our educational opportunities. This must be accomplished without sacrificing budgetary restrictions and fiscal responsibility. Returning the board to its proper policy-making function with close controls over administration, will help the district succeed in over-coming problems.

We must;

  • Reduce class wait-lists
  • Improve job training
  • Develop Certificate and Emeritus programs
  • Ensure our transfer programs successes
  • Create and maintain an atmosphere conducive to study and teaching.

Our once fine college district is in crisis. We must work actively and aggressively to remove the district from the state watch list. Saddleback and Irvine Valley Colleges are supported by your tax dollars. We must utilize this resource and your money to improve our quality of life and quality of education.

Irvine is a growing community and a leader in corporate and business development. We must forge an alliance between these forces and the college district geared toward working together to turn around the negative image and declining enrollment at Irvine Valley College. We must make Irvine Valley College a sought after institution for the conferring of degrees, for leadership in education and community guidance and for the growth of talented teachers, administrators and students.
