My belief is that the United States of America has the best form of government in the world and that it enables we citizens of the City of Newport Beach to better our lives at the local level. However, I also support the theory that, "The Government which governs least, governs best." I view many of our rules and regulations as confusing, overbearing and in excess; ofter conflicting with each other. The way we operate can always be improved. Systems need to be overhauled and/or fine tuned. City Hall operations need to be made even more friendly than they may be now, and also need to become more efficient equally ro resident, property owner or business person. We must mold government policies and practices to help not hinder.

Principles over politics is very important. Sometimes our trust for persons who are voted into elective office ( or appointed to commissions ) diminishes as those individuals turn out to not be the type of leader we thought there were when they were put into office. They may still be effective in carrying out some of their responsibilities but it is clear that they look at their position as being one of power and a means of supporting their overinflated ego; thinking mainly of pleasing themselves, their own interests and those entities which provide support. Morals and ethics are certainly paramount in any form of government. We must elect persons with strong convictions about what is right and what is wrong and why they were put into office.

I strongly believe that the more participation there is in local government the better it works. It may not seem that it does in the biginning but we can afford to take the time to let all views be heard. Too often specialized interests make their point of view paramount without even considering the true impact of their desires upon others with a different view or need.
