Fountain Valley has always had a reputation that they could be proud of. Fountain Valley has outstanding SAT-9 scores, has established high standards for the students to strive for, and this summer brought much need facilities repairs. These are all wonderful accomplishments for Fountain Valley, but we must stay vigilant to stay on top. The state has issued a challenge that every 3rd grader be a fluent reader. We cannot afford to let our children down in this regard. We can, and must, meet this reading achievement challenge, and this is my # 1 priority. My second priority is to increase our academic accountability. Through the use of writing samples, reading and math proficiencies as well as the STAR test, we must prove our students abilities to meet the high mark of excellence expected in this district. We all must be accountable to make this happen. This is a goal that cannot be won without the support of the parents and well as the teachers. Accountability must be a parent-teacher-student team effort, and I will work to find creative ways to improve the participate involvement of the parents. As we expand our curricular programs, let us take advantage of the state and federal grants available to help us progress while maintaining a healthy budget. Over the years I have participated in the application for several grant applications, and have benefited from them as a good way to keep budget costs down while facilitating certain programs. Last but certainly not least FV must stand firm on it's Zero Tolerance policy as it pertains to drugs and weapons. We must guarantee that our children and our teachers are safe in our schools. I am a teacher, I am in a classroom everyday. I am using the framework standards and textbooks. I know first-hand what it takes to teach children to read write and compute, because I do it everyday. Let me bring my professional teaching experience and perspective on the things which work in the classroom to the FV |
