The City needs an aggressive and experienced City Attorney with extensivel trial experience.

By Ronald D "Ron" Davis

Candidate for City Attorney; City of Huntington Beach

This information is provided by the candidate
My extensive trial and private practice experience allows me to reduce the reliance on outside, private lawyers; my skills as a former prosecutor will allow me to effectively and aggressively enforce our City Code; and I will be prepared, not only at City Council meetings, but prepared to draft effective ordinances to protect the quality of life.
I am not a bureaucrat who's only legal experience consists of working for a city government. I spent 2 1/2 years in the DA's office honing my jury trial skills, during which time I prosecuted major felonies.

After I left the DA's office, I continued to try major civil and criminal jury trials. As someone who has practiced major civil litigation for the past 24 years, I know how to run a government law office with the efficiency of a private law office. Those skills allow me to reduce the City's expenditure of funds to outside lawyers. Afterall, with a fully funded City Attorneys Office consisting of 9 lawyers and 6 support personnel, why should the legal work be farmed out to "high-priced contract lawyers."

I promise to cut that expense.

The only way to insure a desireable qualifty of life for all of the citizens of Huntington Beach is to insure that our City Code contains current and enforceable ordinances, and that they be aggressively enforced. Whether it is the loud, party animal next door, or the dilapidated, nuisance house down the street, you can be sure that I will aggressively protect your quality of life.

As City Attorney, I will be pro-active with respect to updating ordinances. There is simply no point to waiting until after a nude juice bar or condom shop springs up in your neighborhood, to finally consider taking action. I will be pro-active.

Finally, there is simply no excuse for not being prepared at City Council meetings. The agendas are published sufficiently in advance to allow any City Attorney to review it and anticipate legal questions.

I believe lawyers, and in particular the City Attorney, have unique ethical obligations. I have not, nor will I, take campaign contributions from anyone, whether a developer or any attorney who may someday represent a developer or individual against the City. Nor will I seek endorsements from any group because if I render an opinion favorable to that group, my conduct will appear improper.

My responsibility is to be impartial and to legally and ethically represent the citizens of this community, and that is what I intend to do.
