Parents as "Clients"By Karen ChavezCandidate for Governing Board Member; Fullerton School District | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
As school district officials, board members must understand that they need to run schools like businesses. Parents are our clients (or "customers") that expect a high-quality experience for their children. Parents should be able to make their concerns heard without being afraid of repercussions or intimidation. Conversely, parents can't expect the highest level of education for their children unless they are deeply involved in their child's school experience. Studies show that the most important factor determining school success is parental involvement. Parents can't expect schools to parent children, only teach them. Ultimately, parents and schools must work together for a child's academic success. However, in the end, schools are responsible for retaining excellent teachers, imparting a rigorous curriculum, and holding high standards for behavior and discipline. Anything less shortchanges kids and parents. |
