Campaign promises are kept and positive changes move the Tustin Unified School Distrcit forward.Four years ago I advocated a platform promising a rigorous academic curriculum, long term facilities planning, and an emphasis on basic skills, including phonics. These promises have been kept. In the last few years we have: Adopted rigorous academic standards and established yearly goals and accountability at each school Implemented systematic, explicit phonics instruction, and "daily workouts" in the basic skills of math, reading comprehension, grammar and spelling Instituted long term facilities planning, using statistically validated enrollment growth projections. Stopped the sale of closed school sites. Reopened Guin Foss and Lambert Elementary schools without raising taxes. Opened two new schools in Tustin Ranch. Construction of a new middle school is beginning and plans for a new high school are about to begin. Established a fundamental school of choice Continued Tustin's English only policy for instruction |
