Political Philosophy for Ali AbdolsalehiCandidate for |
The position of Laguna Beach Board of education trustee. What we need is all summed up in one word, Management. Its no longer about politics versus education, or allocation of funds, businessman versus entrepreneur, but about common sense. I extend a challenge to the people, parents, community of Laguna Beach. I urge you to ask yourself, whether or not our children deserve to reap the benefits of an educational system fit for the new millennium. In other countries, Children in High school, are working towards their collage dreams, in other parts of the country, even in LA, there are magnate programs which focus in on special desires of the students. There are resource centers available. The Board needs to get the attention of its agenda by actually attending classes at the various schools, by speaking to large amounts of students and by going to other schools and comparing districts. Ask any of the 3000 children in our district today, who our school board members are, and shamefully, the answers come up blank. One of the problems is that this position demands a lot of time from its officials. No ones job description is solely school board trustee. Outside of the office, there are other offices, be it law firms or teaching positions etc.… then there is a family to feed behind that, and bills to pay. In contrast, I am one of the lucky ones, where being a student in College, all I have are my studies, and that's it. Having graduated from this city's educational establishments, I know exactly what the strong and weak points of the system is. I am in debt to this establishment. Because of it, I am trilingual, I play 3 instruments, I have attained many computer skills, enough to have opened up my own student run computer repair company, so on and so forth. I want to give back. I want to update our students and bring them up to speed about the cyber-world, I want to stop wasteful spending on committees hiring committees. |
