What I stand for:
- Fiscal Accountability for Tax Dollars
I spent 18 1/2 years as an employee of Bank of America, helping people and businesses manage their financial resources more efficiently and effectively so they could invest in a better future. As a bank executive and mother of three children, I know what it means to be financially accountable. I will put that experience into practice as a trustee of the Kern High School District.
- Proven Commitment Toward Improving Educational Opportunity
In the 1970s, I interrupted my college education to get married and start a family. In 1987, I re-enrolled as a student at California State University, Bakersfield and took one class per quarter while holding down a full-time job and raising two children. I finally earned my degree in 1996 with the tremendous support of my kids and my husband, Walter, who is a construction contractor. It was a long road back, but education has always been of paramount importance for my family. I will bring that sense of commitment to the Kern High School District Board.
- An Independent Voice and Local Control for Kern County Education
As a trustee of the Kern High School District, I will support policies that are in the best interests of education within the district. Since each community knows what is best for its students, I also stand firmly on the side of local control.
I was educated in this district. I graduated from this district. My children attend schools in the district. I will not let outside interests influence or distract me from this mandate.
- Focusing on the Basics, Improved Standards and Higher Test Scores
I will continue to support raising the expectations of everyone involved in education in the Kern High School District. I firmly believe that when challenged, students, teachers, parents and administrators will rise to the occasion. I will support the promotion of the many things that are laudable about the Kern High School District and work towards restructuring those areas that need improvement. I am a product of the district. So are my kids. I know the system works when everyone pulls together to achieve success.
