This information is provided by the candidate

My commitment to education has been long standing. That is why I ran for Fresno School Board 5 years ago. My record and successes speak for themselves. I am concerned with the quality of education for all students. We provide for the differences of our diverse multicultural district. I want our students to receive the best education possible so they may realize their goals and dreams.

Born and raised in the Fresno Area, I appreciate the educational concerns of students, parents, teachers and community members in the District. I have addressed many of these concerns and have brought them forward for consideration. I will continue to decisively participate as instructional and organizational decisions are made to meet the challenges of the Fresno Unified School District. I feel strongly that my commitment to public education and my background are valuable assets which have made a difference.

Other Priorities

  • Address needs of the growing diverse student population as instructional changes are made. This diversity includes: (a) students with unique talents and abilities, (b) students in the middle, (c) students with special needs, and (d) ethnic and cultural differences.

  • Support student learning of the technological skills necessary to function in the information based global society of the 21st century.

  • Focus on the quality of our graduates in light of their abilities to compete in the job market as well as meet the requirements of colleges and universities.

  • Maintain a safe and orderly learning environment.

  • Support programs which address dropout prevention, absenteeism and discipline.

  • Involve the community in local neighborhood schools through participation in school functions and activities.

  • Continue the fiscal accountability and financial reforms that have taken place in the last few years to ensure that services reach the classroom.

  • Have an intimate knowledge of the budget before approval as the budget sets the direction for educational priorities.

  • Increase interagency collaboration among governmental entities such as partnerships in developing senior citizen centers with the City of Fresno.
