Families Are The Basis Of Our Government

By Lawrence K "Larry" Nelson, Sr.

Candidate for State Senator; District 5

This information is provided by the candidate
A strong family will result in a strong government. Where government has eroded the families rights, the family has suffered and has cost we the taxpayers for their "do good " attitude.
I have raised four upstanding children who in turn are raising my twenty one grandchildren and one great grandchild. In my lifetime I have seen the government at all levels take the attitude that they can do a better job than we can. A prine example of this is the current study that the Federal Government wants to do to see what brand of cigarettes our youth are smoking so the parents will have the right to know. At the same time they have prevented parents from knowing if thier minor age child is having an abortion. Where are our values?

Decisions should be made at the lowest level of government, and the fanily is that level. Obviously their are many decisions that have to be made at higher levels, however those that can best be made at the family level should.

In our fourty six years of marriage my wife and I have had thirty foster children in our home due to neglect by the parents. Our desire was to adopt children into our family, however each time the government agency said they had rehabilitated the parents and the children were returned to their homes. In all the cases but the infants that were being adopted into new homes, the children were taken away again and again. Who's rights come first? Obviously the government has not done a good job here.

I want to protect the families and the childrens rights in any and all legislation that comes from the State Senate.
