Statement of MOHAMED POONJA, Candidate for Governing Board Member Occupation: Trustee / Management Consultant Age: 48 Education and Qualifications: * Institute Chartered Accountants, Ireland, Fellow * USIU, San Diego: M.S., Management/Organizational Development * Owner, Poonja & Company, Los Altos * Partner, Coopers & Lybrand - Certified Fraud Examiner * Justice Department-appointed bankruptcy trustee * Chairman's Advisory Board, Heritage Bank * School Board: 1973-78, Kenya * Los Altos Education Foundation Board - AYSO Board/Coach * Schola Cantorum Board As an eleven-year resident, and parent of two children in the Los Altos School District, I am committed to quality education. As a board member of a twelve-school K-12 system, I have experience administering academic curricula, recruiting teachers, allocating funds, and overseeing facilities. My professional background as a Big-Six accounting firm partner and trustee reorganizing entities, and tenure on the Los Altos Education Foundation, enable me to understand and analyze the District's finances. Class-size reductions, while beneficial, have costs: facility overcrowding and accelerated deterioration. School facilities, including fields, should be improved to reflect community standards, and the District's reputation for academic excellence. Our community demands--and deserves--improved facilities. I support a bond issue to rebuild our schools. I also support mutually beneficial school-city cooperation. My financial, managerial, and community experience; and understanding of education issues and family concerns, uniquely qualify me to serve on our School Board.
