The mission of the Fire Department is safety of lives and property in our community. However, this mission can and should be done in a fiscally responsible manner, just like any business.
In my two years in office, I have implemented significant changes in our fire service to make it more cost effective and efficient and responsive to the public.
To further the work of providing better and more cost effective service to our citizens, I initiated a plan to work more closely with our neighbor, the Half Moon Bay Fire Protection District. That plan came to fruition recently with the implementation of a six month pilot program whereby we have joined our management functions. This has already resulted in significant savings of taxpayer money and an increased level of service to our community.
We are currently exploring having paramedics on all of our fire trucks at no additional expense to the taxpayer. We are also implementing much needed water an cliff rescue programs. Together by joining forces we can do more for the community than we were able to do separately.
We hope that if the joint powers pilot project works successfully that we will be able to consider a permanent joint powers arrangement or perhaps even consolidation of the two districts.
