Our community has changed rapidly over the last few years. Times have changed and the demand for fire and emergency services has increased. My vision is for a single fire district serving the entire coastside. Together, the Pt. Montara and Half Moon Bay Fire Districts can provide a higher level of service in a more cost effective manner than they can acting as two separate Districts.
Two years ago I initiated a plan which culminated recently in a cooperative agreement with the Half Moon Bay Fire District and which may eventually lead to consolidation of the two Districts.
Already the cooperative arrangement is working extremely well and is saving our District over $50,000 a year and our level of services has increased.
We are now considering having paramedics on each fire truck. This is something we could not do on our own. We have also initiated a long overdue water and cliff rescue program. We now engage in joint purchasing of equipment, joint training. We fight fires and provide other emergency services together.
All of this can be done without increasing the cost to the taxpayers if we work together. In fact we are anticipating a tax decrease.
My vision is for government to constantly explore ways we can provide better and more cost effective service to our citizens. I am looking forward to continuing the progressive work that we have started.
