Statement of AMY MARGOLIS, Candidate for Governing Board Member Occupation: City Finance Director Education and Qualifications: My decision to serve on the Los Altos School Board is motivated by my belief that our good schools must be made even better. We must provide our children with community schools that have safe and uncrowded classrooms and facilities. We must find creative ways to provide more individual instruction to children not lucky enough to benefit from the State's class size reduction program. (Fifteen classrooms in grades 4-6 are expected to have 30 or more students this year!) We must also assure that students develop strong basic language and writing skills. Having spent over 20 years analyzing budgets as a municipal finance officer, I will bring to the Board experience in ways to make the most of limited government resources. This experience is enhanced by knowledge of the District gained through volunteer activities as my two children have moved through the Los Altos schools for the last 10 years. I have volunteered in classrooms, served on the LAEF Board, as Chair of the Bullis and Egan Site Councils, on the Bullis PTA Board in numerous positions, on the District's Long Range Planning/Eastbrook Committee and as a volunteer for all three "Measure A" campaigns.
