Statement of ANDREA HARRIS, Candidate for City Council Member Occupation: Tax Appraisal Supervisor Age: 50 Education and Qualifications: B.A. University of Pennsylvania I am running on a platform of slower growth and rejuvenation of our business community. I am the Chair of the Planning Commission and a 20 year resident. Basically I believe if it works don't fix it. Last year we approved 1000 new apartments, so many that our schools couldn't guarantee local school enrollment. This year our businesses are leaving town. I think we need a fix. Here is what I want to change in the general plan: * Lower current requirement to build residential at 20 units per acre so we can build single family homes instead of apartments. * Reduce housing "floor area ratios" so new large houses don't crowd the existing smaller ones next door. * Change standard that allows office or industrial buildings to be 60 to 75 feet tall. Do we really want a "big city" look for Cupertino? * Add focus on relieving traffic congestion. * Increase retail land allocations and add incentives for business. These are easy changes to make, and real quality of life issues for us all. I know the issues, embrace public input, forge consensus, and get things done. Please help me now with your vote.
